Jail break: FG Suspends 14 Personnels of Kuje Prisons

The Federal government has approved the suspension of 14 personnels of the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS).

That was following the escape of two high profile inmates, Solomon Amodu and Maxwell Ajukwu from custody in Kuje Medium Security Prison on the 24th of June, 2016.

The duo of Amodu and Ajukwu are standing trial for culpable homicide.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the NPS, Deputy Controller of Prisons (DCP) Francis Enobore on Monday.

According to Mr. Enobore, the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board (CDFIPB) approved the suspension of 4 senior officers.

Meanwhile, the Controller-General of Prisons, Ja’afaru Ahmed in his capacity, approved the suspension of the 10 junior staff of the prison.

He gave the name of 21 of the affected officers and men as: 

1. Officer-in-Charge; DCP Musa Tanko, SIP Buhari Musa Dogo, 

2. PIP Stephen Edogbanya J., 

3. PIP Patrick Teru, 

4. IP Usman Peter, IP Dennis B. Makum

5. IP Fassan S. Akin

6. SPA Daka James,

7. SPA Adamu Luka, 

8. SPA Zakari Yunasa,

9. PA Asnamal Samuel, 

10. PA Ejegwa Patrick, 

11. PA 11 Isah Ibrahim and,

12. PA 11 Ngede Salifu.

He said the suspension is sequel to the outcome of the preliminary investigation into the incident and in consonance with PSR 030406 (2008) Revised Version.

He added that the step was necessary to allow for unhindered trial process.

“The commissioned officers among them are to be served with letters of query while the junior staff will be given Form 96 (Charge Sheet ) to explain their role in the unfortunate saga,” Enobore disclosed.

Meanwhile, the Prisons spokesman has said efforts to recapture the fleeing prisoners in collaboration with sisters security agencies were on-going.

“This is in addition to tightening security measures in and prison formations nationwide to forestall a repeat of such incident,” he added.
