The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on President Mohammadu Buhari to resign as a result of

incompetence, having allowed the national economy to slip into repression.

The call was made by PDP through its Director of new media Mr. Deji Adeyanju, “we join all well meaning Nigerians to call on Mr. Buhari to resign, if he is unable to reverse the disastrous economic decline he has brought on Nigerians”. This declaration was made some hours after the release by the National Bureau of Statistics confirming that Nigeria had slipped into recession. It said Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) contracted by 2.06 percent, marking the first major recession in 29 years.

It has been predicted Nigerians economy will be heading for recession, in the face of dwindling economy. The dwindling fortune of Nigeria is due to continuous shrinking of naira, amidst dwindling revenues as a result of fall in crude oil prices, as well as its production. Which is largely due to militancy activities in the oil rich Niger Delta.

The downturn of events especially the fall in crude oil prices has led to down turn in the economy. There has been increase lay off of workers by companies, banks and industries. People struggle to survive, many citizens are also hopeless.

The PDP in its statement on Wednessday, stated that the situation is a direct result of bad policy of the present administration, led by Mr. Muhammadu Buhari “ineptitude and incompetence” approach to economic management, which were as a result of the “archaic and incoherent economic policies”.

It claimed that He pursued similar policy when he was head of state as military Junta between 1983 and 1985. “Nothing better showcases the absolute ineptitude and incompetence of the Muhammadu Buhari administration than the GDP, inflation and unemployment figures released by the Nigerian Bereau of Sttatistics today”

As contained in a statement signed by Deji Adeyanju. PDP Director of new media.
