A Niger Deltan, Smith Sokipiri Dokubor, has in the following piece expounded on the battle of the Niger Delta and gave reasons why it will fail.
He identified Manifolds, Terrain, Tribalism, Harassment and Lack of Military Funding as major handicaps on the part of the Nigerian Army in the fight against the Niger delta Avengers.

After watching the video clips of the soldiers sent to battle the avengers and the good people of the Niger Delta, I came to the conclusion that this is a suicide mission “dead on arrival”.
Nigeria army has been rated as the best land army in Africa but the war of the sea still eludes them.
My prayers are to my brothers from the eastern region that has been sent on this suicide mission, the good lord will protect you.
I can beat my chest and say that in this whole sheared code named “Operation Crocodile Smile” even a single avenger will not be killed, so I have this to say to you my brothers “do not kill a civilian shoot with caution”.
The tactics of modern warfare is not about the morals or the much jiggering or the high spirit the soldiers have.
The tactics of modern warfare is all about the war on the terrain “win the terrain and you win the war” a case study American Vietnam War.
America lost the war because they never studied (won) the terrain, Vietnam as a country was built on swamp and the residents has lived there time immemorial.
They know the terrain, they eat from it, they live on it and worship it.
That is one of the major attributes to loss of the Vietnam War on the side of America.
Quote me today Nigeria will lose this war in the oil rich region “Niger Delta” code name “Operation Crocodile Smile”.
The freedom fighters Avengers has this to say: “we are the white sharks of the Atlantic” meaning crocodile can only swim at the shallow bed of a river and can never be seen in an ocean because of the depth.
If I should suggest to the failed government of Nigeria the invasion of the “Niger Delta ” is not the best tactics because of the following reasons:
1. Manifolds: Most of the manifolds in the Niger Delta are buried deep down the Atlantic Ocean and the Avengers has studied them and has this to say in quote: “we know where each and every one of these manifolds are located and when you are done harassing innocent civilians we will blow them up at will, meaning when you are done with your “operation crocodile smile” calamity will befall the country.
2. Terrain: the solders sent over there are not navy. They are army; they know nothing about marine warfare.
And they lack what is called “amphibious training”.
Avengers have this to say about that in quote: “We are amphibious in nature we have lived here time immemorial thousands of years we know the dept of every nuke and cranny of this ocean.
Lest you forget, the Nigerian government won the Civil War because of the effort of our belonged hero Isaac- Adaka Boro of the 3rd marine commandos (3MCDOS) which constituted of able-bodied Ijaw Warriors voluntarily.
They were not given any formal military training prior to that great contribution to the unity of Nigeria, but they succeeded because there were amphibious by nature.
3. Lack of military funding: the freedom fighters, the Avengers have this to say in quote: “Operation Crocodile Smile, is this all you can offer to fight us?”
What this means was that in the early hours of Thursday three military personnel’s attached to the 3rd marine commando, were seen saddled on a wooden canoe in the search of the avengers.
Their picture was taken unknown to them. If the freedom fighters wanted to attack, they will all be dead.
4. Tribalism: as long as the entity called Nigeria is still rule by tribal bigots the war of the Niger Delta is a failure.
5. Harassment: A reliable source, though it has not been made public in the main stream media because of the uprising it will bring, has it that Tompolo’s old aged father of 85 years was tortured to death during the invasion in the Niger Delta.
This is war crime; when you do this to innocent civilians how on earth can they help you out with intelligence.
With this lack of professionalism on the side of the military the battle of the Niger Delta has become is a lost course.
This is a new era.
The battle of 1967-1970 may be a child’s play to compare with what is to come if Nigeria and it leaders do not take the right step to bring lasting peace to the problem of the Niger Delta and eastern region in general which can only be solved by referendum.
