One of the two armed robbery suspects arrested by the Directorate of State Security (DSS) and paraded in Awka, Anambra state Tuesday has blamed the prevailing hard times in the country for his involvement in robbery.
The suspect, Uche Ezeugo, said he was forced into the act to enable him give his late father a befitting burial.
Ezeugo declared: “I’m not a natural thief. It’s this Buhari hard condition that led me into this temptation”.
His accomplice, simply named Somadina, both arrested for allegedly stealing some laptop computers, blamed his action on hunger and starvation.
They were said to have hailed from Aguluezechukwu in Aguata council area of the state.
They were apprehended by the Directorate of the State Security Services at Nanka in Orumba North local government area of the state.
Both aged 20, the suspects who had confessed to the crime said it was their first time and therefore pleaded for leniency, promising not to indulge in such acts again.
The State Commissioner of police, Mr Sam Okaula appreciated the men of DSS for the stride.
He said the collaboration between the police and other security agencies had helped in reducing crime and criminality in the state.
He said the laptops were disposed by the suspects before they were arrested.
Okaula disclosed that two pump action guns and one locally made rifle were recovered from suspects and would be charged to court immediately after investigations.
