
The Anambra State Government has presented official certificate of recognition to the traditional ruler of Ukwulu in Dunukofia Local Government Area, Igwe Peter Uyanwa.
The certificate was presented to him in the midst of top state officials and citizens of Ukwulu by Gov Willie Obiano in a brief but colourful ceremony at the Governor’s Lodge, Awka today.
The presentation ceremony was well-attended by traditional rulers from Anambra Central Senatorial District, natives of Ukwulu, friends and well-wishers of the new king who turned out to felicitate with Igwe Uyanwa.
At the event, Gov Obiano identified peace as a prerequisite for meaningful development anywhere.
He said that the efforts of his administration aimed at resolving leadership tussles in communities and instituting leadership was to ensure that there is coordinated development in all communities, especially the rural areas.
He therefore urged the new traditional ruler to strive to unite his people and to carry everyone along always.
The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters, Mr Greg Obi disclosed that every necessary process were observed before the traditional ruler emerged.
He added that due to his pedigree, Ukwulu people were unanimous choosing him.
In an admonition, the Traditional ruler of Mbaukwu, Igwe Peter Anugwu described the traditional stool as a prestigious institution.
According to him, it requires that its occupants be people with proven integrity.
He asked Igwe Uyanwa to avoid indulging in acts that can smear the image of the institution.
Responding, the new traditional ruler thanked the governor for recognizing him and promised to lead his people with the fear of God.
In their separate remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Anambra State University, Professor Fidelis Okafor who is an indigene of Ukwulu and the State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Ken Emeakayi commended the governor’s efforts at promoting peace in the rural communities.
He said with the recognition, the community is poised for more advancements.
