Contrary to public view that the Department of State Security [DSS] acted arbitrarily in Rivers State on judge’s residence without recourse to the state police command, evidence has emerged otherwise.
According to a police source, who spoke to Elombah.com, the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Francis Odesanya [pictured above], was actually briefed before the DSS raid.
Consequently, according to the source, the Rivers CP will face sanctions for aiding Governor Nyesom Wike to abort the sting operation.
CP Odesanya will be sanctioned for his role in the foiled arrest of Justice Liman of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt.
Preliminary reports showed that Odesanya prevented the security agencies from carrying out a legitimate search/arrest order.
Governor Wike had, on receiving an SOS from the Judge, blocked the arrest of the Judge by operatives of the DSS around 1a.m. on Saturday.
Police authorities as well as the Police Service Commission have declared that they will sanction the officer for obstruction of justice for interfering with a legitimate operation.
The source stated, “The Rivers Commissioner of Police will be dealt with appropriately.
“It has been established that the DSS officials who were at the judge’s residence had with them duly signed search and arrest warrants.
“By stopping the security agents from doing their work, what he did was to obstruct justice.
“He stopped those people from carrying out a legitimate order.
“He will be sanctioned accordingly.” The report however did not state the kind of punishment Mr Odesanya would get.
Recall that DSS had carried out series of special sting operations involving some Judges of the Supreme, Appeal and High Courts.
These operations were based on allegations of corruptions and other acts of professional misconduct by a few of the suspected Judges.
DSS said that the service action is in line with its core mandate, as they have been monitoring the expensive and luxurious lifestyle of some of the Judges as well as complaints from the concerned public over judgment obtained fraudulently and on the basis amounts of money paid.
According to the DSS, the judges involved were invited, upon which due diligence was exhibited and their premises searched.
The searches allegedly uncovered huge raw cash of various denominations, local and foreign currencies, with real estate worth several millions of Naira, and documents affirming unholy acts by these Judges.
Meanwhile, some of them have made useful statements while a few have declined notwithstanding the glaring evidences by DSS.
There were found material cash, documents and property recovered pointing to their compromise, according to DSS statement.
