NDDC Rep, Apostle Nkono, commiserates with Ex-Minister, Chief Essien, on Spouse’s demise

Apostle Nkono registered his deep sense of grief over the loss of the matriarch whom he described as a beacon of inspiration and support to her immediate family and Eket nation.

Akwa Ibom State Representative on the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Apostle Abasiandikan Nkono, today, paid a condolence visit to Chief Nduese Essien, a former Federal Minister and Federal Legislator, on the loss of his wife, Deaconess Ekaette Nduese Essien.

Accompanied by his aides as well as the Chairman of APC, Eket Chapter, Mr Ubong Okposin, Apostle Nkono registered his deep sense of grief over the loss of the matriarch whom he described as a beacon of inspiration and support to her immediate family and Eket nation.

He said, as an Eket son, he is proud of the indelible imprints the deceased has left behind at the family, Local Government, and even at the State level.

Hailing the Chief Nduese Essien family for always being at the forefront in promoting a better, united and virile Eket, Nkono regretted that her demise constitutes a big setback but urged the immediate family and the entire Eket to draw comfort and hope from God Almighty.

“May the good Lord continue to strengthen this family,” he prayed.

Apostle Nkono also promised to continue sustaining strong ties with family.

Chief Essien, in his response, appreciated the NDDC State Rep for visiting even before the official opening of the mourning house, stressing that it is an indication of love and solidarity.

“It is definitely a difficult period for all of us. I must commend you and members of your delegation for finding time to be here with us. I appreciate this visit. It will go a long way to assuage the feelings of the family,” he stated.

The late Deaconess Ekaette Nduese Essien passed away recently at the age of 79.

Her funeral, fixed for 30 August, will be conducted by the Qua Iboe Church at the Cenotaph Ground, beside the Eket Sports Stadium, Eket LGA.

A statement released by the family also reveals that the funeral service will be preceded by the opening of the mourning house on 25 August, while condolence visits will follow from Monday, 26 August to Thursday, 29 August, at the family house, Nta Isip-Ikot Ibiok in Eket Local Government Area.

A service of songs in honour of the deceased will be held at her residence in the Federal Capital Territory, 1 Rex Lawson Street, off 69 Road, Gwarimpa, on Friday, 23 August, by 5 p.m.

A second service of songs will be held in Eket at Qua Iboe Church, Ikot Ibiok, Eket, by 5 p.m. on Thursday, 29 August.

The deceased was a retired academician.
