(DDM) – Former Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Otunba Nick Ovuakporie, has dismissed claims that former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, intends to contest the 2027 governorship election in Delta State.

DDM, gathered that Ovuakporie described the alleged political ambition as “unfounded and baseless,” asserting that it lacks any credible backing within the party structures.

Speaking with journalists in Asaba, Ovuakporie commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his record of achievements, noting that the governor enjoys widespread support across Delta State.

“No one can hold His Excellency, our Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff F.O. Oborevwori, by the jugular. He is the undisputed leader of the APC in Delta State,” Ovuakporie said.

He added that recent rumors about potential challenges to Governor Oborevwori’s leadership in 2027 “lack merit,” emphasizing that the governor’s accomplishments have earned the people’s confidence and will ensure his re-election.

Ovuakporie also reflected on the historical development of the APC in Delta State, highlighting his own contributions as a key party insider.

“The story of the APC in Delta State cannot be told correctly without my input. I played a significant role in its administration as a major stakeholder and insider,” he said.

He explained that the APC is not a personal fiefdom but a political party founded on progressive ideals, open to all who wish to participate in its governance and activities.

Ovuakporie recalled the leadership transition within the party, noting that under founding leader Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, he and other party members supported Omo-Agege when he joined the APC.

“We took leadership from Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and handed it to the former Deputy Senate President, Omo-Agege, as he was the highest elected official of the party at that time,” Ovuakporie explained.

He further noted that he facilitated and authenticated parallel primary elections held at Mobile Base in Udu, where Omo-Agege contested against Olorogun Emerhor, and extended his support until Omo-Agege became Deputy Senate President during the 9th Senate.

Ovuakporie stressed that without his efforts, Omo-Agege would not have gained the party leadership at the state, ward, and local government levels, which helped consolidate his political influence.

“I took possession of the entire Congress materials singlehandedly without his support and handed over the structure of the Party to him, with my name recognized nationwide,” he emphasized.

He concluded by reiterating his loyalty to the APC and the progressive ideals of the party, underscoring that speculation about Omo-Agege’s governorship ambitions are politically baseless.
