NMA uncovers illegal baby factory in Delta State

(DDM) – The Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Warri Zone, has uncovered a suspected baby factory masquerading as a medical facility in Udu, Delta State.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the shocking discovery was made during a routine inspection aimed at identifying quacks and unregistered hospitals operating in the region.

According to reports, four infants were found in the care of unqualified personnel at the illegal facility, prompting immediate intervention by NMA officials.

Chairman of NMA Warri Zone, Dr. Djebah Bright, confirmed that the babies have been transferred to a secure orphanage in Asaba for proper care and protection.

Police operatives were alerted to the situation, leading to the arrest of the facility’s operator and an auxiliary nurse accused of running the illicit operation.

Dr. Bright emphasised that the association would continue to intensify monitoring efforts to rid the state of unlicensed medical centres.

Authorities disclosed that the illegal establishment had been under surveillance following reports of suspicious activities and unqualified medical practice in the area.

Community members expressed shock at the revelation, describing it as a violation of ethical and human rights standards.

Investigators revealed that the baby factory had been operational for some time, raising concerns about potential trafficking networks linked to the facility.

The Delta State Police Command has assured residents that a full-scale investigation is underway to track other individuals connected to the criminal enterprise.

Officials warned that those found guilty would face prosecution under Nigeria’s child protection and anti-human trafficking laws.

Medical practitioners in the state have urged residents to patronise only registered health institutions to prevent falling victim to criminal schemes.

Analysts say the discovery highlights the urgent need for stricter medical regulation and public awareness campaigns across the state.

Dr. Bright further assured that the NMA would continue working with security agencies to ensure that unethical practices in the health sector are eradicated.

The investigation is expected to extend to neighbouring areas as part of a broader crackdown on illegal medical facilities.
