Tinubu ends vacation early, set to return to Abuja Tuesday

(DDM) – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will cut short his vacation abroad and return to Abuja on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the announcement was made in a statement by the president’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu had departed Nigeria for France on September 4 to observe part of his annual holiday.

He was initially scheduled to divide his vacation between France and the United Kingdom before returning home at a later date.

However, the presidency confirmed that the plan has now changed, with the president set to arrive earlier than expected.

During his stay in Paris, President Tinubu held a private luncheon with French President Emmanuel Macron.

The meeting took place at the historic Élysée Palace, the official residence of the French leader.

Onanuga disclosed that the two presidents reviewed key aspects of bilateral relations between Nigeria and France.

He said both leaders reaffirmed commitments to deepen cooperation across areas of shared interest.

According to the statement, their discussions focused on economic growth, mutual prosperity, and contributions to global stability.

The talks underscored France’s continued partnership with Nigeria on trade, investment, and regional security.

Tinubu’s early return is seen as significant, given mounting political and economic debates in Nigeria.

Observers believe his presence in Abuja will enable him to address urgent governance matters awaiting his attention.

The Nigerian leader has faced mounting domestic pressure over economic reforms and subsidy policies introduced earlier in his tenure.

His administration is also battling rising public discontent over inflation, fuel costs, and the declining value of the naira.

Political analysts suggest that Tinubu may have decided to cut short his holiday to reconnect with national issues.

Some also view the move as an effort to strengthen confidence in his leadership amid growing criticism.

France has long been one of Nigeria’s key international allies, especially in West African security operations.

Both nations cooperate in combating terrorism and insurgency in the Sahel and Lake Chad Basin regions.

Economic ties have also expanded, with French companies maintaining investments in energy, infrastructure, and technology sectors in Nigeria.

The visit to Macron further signals Tinubu’s intention to reinforce Nigeria’s place in international diplomacy.

With his arrival scheduled for Tuesday, attention will shift to the policy decisions he prioritizes upon return.

Nigerians, already burdened by economic hardship, are keen to see how swiftly he will respond to pressing challenges.

For now, the president’s early return sets the stage for renewed scrutiny of his domestic agenda.
