(DDM) — At least three persons, including a police inspector, have lost their lives in a multiple-vehicle accident involving five articulated trucks on Kara Bridge, inward Mowe, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the fatal crash occurred in the early hours of Thursday, causing heavy traffic gridlock and panic among commuters.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident was triggered when a speeding truck driver lost control, ramming into other vehicles already slowed down by road congestion.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), and police rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene to evacuate victims and clear the wreckage.

DDM learned that three bodies, including that of a serving police inspector, were recovered from the crash site, while several others sustained severe injuries and were immediately taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

An FRSC source confirmed that five articulated vehicles were involved, including two fuel tankers, a cement truck, and two container carriers, all of which suffered heavy impact.

“The accident was a result of excessive speed and brake failure,” the source told DDM. “We recovered three dead bodies and rescued several others trapped in the vehicles.”

Traffic officers battled for hours to restore movement along the busy highway, which links Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States, and serves as one of Nigeria’s most critical commercial routes.

Images from the scene obtained by DDM showed mangled vehicles, scattered cargo, and emergency personnel carrying out recovery operations under intense pressure.

Residents and motorists lamented the recurring fatal accidents on the Kara Bridge axis, urging the Federal Government to enforce stricter safety measures and expedite the ongoing reconstruction of the expressway.

“This area has become a death trap,” a witness told DDM. “Every few weeks, we hear of crashes here, something urgent must be done.”

Authorities have since cleared the wreckage and reopened the affected section of the highway, while investigations are underway to determine the exact cause and identify the culpable drivers.

As of press time, emergency teams continued to monitor traffic flow and provide support to victims’ families, as tributes poured in for the fallen police officer and other casualties of the tragic incident.
