President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially decorated Nigeria’s newly appointed Service Chiefs with their corresponding military ranks, aligning them with their new positions.
Among those promoted are General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, elevated from Lieutenant General to General as the Chief of Defence Staff, and Emmanuel Undiendeye Undiendeye, promoted from Major General to Lieutenant General as the Chief of Defence Intelligence (CDI).
Other top officers included in the promotions are Waidi Shaibu, now Lieutenant General, as Chief of Army Staff (COAS); Kevin Aneke, now Air Marshal, as Chief of Air Staff; and Idi Abbas, now Vice Admiral, as Chief of Naval Staff.
These promotions coincide with their formal assumption of duties, marking a reorganization of Nigeria’s military leadership to strengthen the country’s security framework.
The appointments, announced by Tinubu last Friday, are seen as part of efforts to refocus and enhance the effectiveness of the Armed Forces.
In a statement shared on his verified X account, the President charged the new Service Chiefs to “deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity within our Armed Forces as they serve our nation with honour.”
