He said the rescue team, led by Director Alhaji Sani Anas, immediately rushed to the scene. However, upon arrival, they discovered that the elderly woman had already died.

Family members told officials that the deceased had been missing for four days before her body was found. They also disclosed that she had been mentally ill, which may have contributed to the tragic accident.

The rescue team recovered her remains from the pit and handed them over to the local ward head, Musa Muhammad, for burial.

The Fire Service urged residents to cover open pit toilets and soakaways to prevent similar tragedies, especially involving elderly or vulnerable individuals.

The incident has left the Sarai village community in deep shock. Locals described the late Habiba as a gentle and respected elderly woman known to wander around due to her mental condition.

Authorities have since warned that many rural homes still have uncovered or weak pit toilets, posing serious dangers to both children and the elderly.
