The Federal High Court (FHC) has denied reports that Justice James Omotosho survived an assassination attempt following his sentencing of Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment for terrorism charges.
The court said a blogger posted on Facebook that Justice Omotosho narrowly escaped an attack early Saturday morning, just days after supposedly sentencing Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment.
In a statement, Chief Registrar Sulaiman Hassan labeled the claim, which circulated on Facebook, as “completely false and unfounded,” urging the public to treat it as fake news and avoid sharing it further.
The court has called on security agencies to investigate the origin of the false report, citing its potential to cause panic and undermine judicial confidence.
“We call on relevant security agencies and regulatory authorities to conduct a thorough investigation and prosecute those responsible under Nigeria’s cybercrime, defamation, and public misinformation laws,” the statement read.
