Kebbi immigration attack leaves officers dead as terrorists strike

(DDM) – Nigeria has been thrown into another wave of shock and fear following a brutal terrorist attack on an immigration checkpoint in Kebbi State, where armed men opened fire on officers on duty and killed three instantly.

DDM gathered that the attack occurred in the early hours of the morning when heavily armed terrorists stormed the border post, surprising officers who were conducting routine patrol and verification duties.

The attackers reportedly arrived on motorcycles and immediately began shooting, causing chaos and forcing nearby residents to flee for safety.

Eyewitnesses explained that the terrorists fired sporadically at the immigration officers, leaving little room for escape or counter-resistance.

Security sources confirmed that three officers were killed on the spot, their bodies later recovered after the attackers fled into surrounding forest areas.

The incident has triggered widespread panic across local border communities who have been battling persistent insecurity linked to banditry, terrorism, and illegal cross-border activities.

Authorities say the immigration point targeted is a critical monitoring facility used to track irregular migration, smuggling operations, and movements of suspected armed groups along the northern frontier.

The attackers’ decision to target this location has raised fears that terrorist cells are attempting to weaken national border surveillance in preparation for larger coordinated actions.

Residents noted that gunfire lasted several minutes before the attackers retreated, leaving behind a scene described as horrific and deeply traumatizing.

Emergency responders and security reinforcements later arrived to secure the area and begin preliminary investigations into the attack.

Officials say intelligence teams have been deployed to track the movement of the terrorists and identify possible collaborators within the region.

The Kebbi State Government condemned the killings, describing them as a cowardly assault on Nigeria’s sovereignty and the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect national borders.

The Nigeria Immigration Service has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of its officers, calling the attack a painful reminder of the dangerous environment in which security personnel operate daily.

Senior officials have urged the Federal Government to intensify border security operations and accelerate the deployment of advanced surveillance technologies to prevent future attacks.

Security analysts say terrorists have increasingly targeted security points in northern Nigeria to cripple law-enforcement structures and create safe passages for arms, drugs, and human trafficking.

Communities in the affected area are calling for immediate military intervention, arguing that the frequency of attacks around border corridors is steadily rising.

For many residents, the killing of the officers represents another dark moment in a region already struggling with fear, displacement, and economic disruption caused by persistent violence.

As investigations continue, Nigerians across the country are mourning the slain officers and demanding stronger, more decisive action against the terrorist networks responsible for the attack.

Authorities have vowed that the perpetrators will be tracked down and made to face justice for the killings and the assault on national security.
