Former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad, has passed away at a hospital in Saudi Arabia.
He was 71 years old and died on Tuesday morning, December 16, 2025.
The Nigerian Association of Muslim Law Students (NAMLAS) confirmed his death, describing it as a monumental loss to the Nigerian judiciary, legal profession, Muslim Ummah, and the nation.
NAMLAS praised Justice Muhammad as a towering figure of integrity, humility, and unwavering commitment to justice, who exemplified the highest ideals of the Bench.
Throughout his career, Justice Muhammad served Nigeria’s judiciary for decades, rising to the highest judicial office in the country.
He was known for his fairness, courage, and fidelity to the rule of law, leaving behind a legacy that will guide future generations of legal practitioners.
NAMLAS also highlighted his mentorship role, particularly among young Muslim law students, describing him as a fatherly pillar and source of encouragement.
The association extended condolences to his family, the Nigerian judiciary, and the country, praying that Allah forgives his shortcomings and grants him Jannatul Firdaus.
