A retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Musa Garba, has officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara State.
The defection ceremony took place on Monday, January 12, 2026, in Gusau, the state capital, drawing party leaders, stakeholders, and political observers.
Garba, who served in various capacities across the Nigerian Police Force, cited his desire to contribute to positive political change and improved governance as the driving factor behind his decision.
He expressed optimism that his experience in security, administration, and public service would help strengthen democratic processes and promote accountability in Zamfara politics.
Garba stated that citizens deserve leaders who are committed to transparency, social welfare, and institutional reforms, and he sees the ADC as the right platform to advance these ideals.
During the event, Garba emphasized the need for unity among political actors in Zamfara and urged all stakeholders to prioritize the welfare of the people above personal ambitions.
ADC officials described his entry into the party as a significant boost to their structure and strategic roadmap ahead of forthcoming elections in the state.
Party leaders highlighted Garba’s wealth of experience in governance and security management, noting that it would be instrumental in strengthening grassroots mobilisation and ensuring the party’s operational efficiency.
The ADC leadership reiterated their commitment to building a people-driven political movement anchored on integrity, inclusivity, and social justice.
They described Garba’s defection as symbolic of a growing national trend of professionals and public servants joining politics to effect meaningful reforms.
Speaking at the event, the ADC State Chairman welcomed Garba and assured him of full cooperation in integrating his expertise into the party’s programmes and policy initiatives.
Leaders of the party stated that his entry would inspire confidence among party members, enhance public perception of the ADC, and provide a credible alternative to traditional political structures in Zamfara.
Garba was accompanied by family members and former colleagues, who commended his decision to participate actively in the political process.
Political analysts say that such defections by respected public figures can strengthen party credibility, increase voter engagement, and influence political alignments ahead of elections.
The ceremony concluded with a call for unity, collaboration, and the mobilisation of grassroots supporters to consolidate the ADC’s position as a major force in Zamfara politics.
ADC members and political observers praised the event as a step toward broadening democratic participation and encouraging professionals to contribute to governance and political reform.
The party is now positioning itself to leverage Garba’s experience and networks to achieve meaningful electoral outcomes while promoting governance reforms across the state.
