Florida Airport to be Renamed After US President Donald Trump

An airport in the U.S. state of Florida is set to be renamed in honour of President Donald Trump after lawmakers approved a bill authorising the change.

Florida’s Republican-led legislature on Thursday passed a measure to rename Palm Beach International Airport as the “President Donald J. Trump International Airport.” Governor Ron DeSantis, who previously contested against Trump, is expected to sign the bill into law.

The airport, located near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, serves one of the state’s most affluent coastal communities. Before the change takes effect, approval will also be required from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The proposed renaming reflects Trump’s long-standing practice of branding buildings and institutions with his name. If approved, the airport would join a growing list of facilities linked to the president.

In December, the board of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts voted to rebrand the arts complex as the “Trump-Kennedy Center.” Reports also indicate that attempts to rename New York’s Penn Station and Washington’s Dulles International Airport after Trump were unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, the United States Department of the Treasury has confirmed draft designs for a commemorative $1 coin bearing Trump’s image, despite longstanding laws prohibiting the depiction of a sitting or living president on U.S. currency.

The airport renaming plan is expected to spark public debate as federal approval processes continue.
