Adamu Abubakar, the first son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has resigned from his position as Commissioner for Works and Energy Development in Adamawa State.
The resignation, tendered on Monday, was addressed to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri through the Secretary to the State Government. No official reason was given for his decision to step down.
Abubakar’s departure comes shortly after Governor Fintiri defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), a move that has triggered a wave of political shifts within the state.
In a statement released Monday night by his personal assistant and media aide, Abdulaziz Jauro, Abubakar expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve in what he described as a role of “immense significance.” He characterized his tenure as commissioner as an honour and reaffirmed his loyalty to the administration’s development vision.
The statement also conveyed his gratitude to his father, Atiku Abubakar, for what he described as moral support and guidance throughout his time in office. Abubakar further thanked staff members of the Ministry of Works and Energy Development for their professionalism and dedication to advancing infrastructure projects across the state.
He extended appreciation to his community in Jada for their continued prayers and encouragement, noting that his resignation does not mark the end of his involvement in public service. According to the statement, he remains committed to contributing to the unity, growth and progress of Adamawa State in other capacities.
His resignation follows a broader political development in the state, where 22 commissioners and special advisers reportedly defected to the APC after Governor Fintiri’s switch from the PDP, signaling a significant realignment in Adamawa’s political landscape.
