A rally by the City Boy Movement (CBM) in support of President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid turned sour in Owerri, Imo State, as angry residents disrupted the event and carted away empowerment materials meant for distribution.
The City Boy Movement, is a political support group backing the administration of President Tinubu.
Diaspora Digital Media understand that the event turned chaotic after some aggrieved residents reportedly stormed the venue, causing confusion and forcing many participants to flee.
It was gathered that the event had attracted a large crowd before the situation turned rowdy, with witnesses saying there was little or no crowd control.
In a viral video sighted by this medium, the venue appeared overcrowded as several attendees were seen running in various directions while others scrambled to grab items that had been brought for distribution as part of an empowerment programme.
Some of the angry residents were seen carrying away tailoring machines, refrigerators and other materials believed to be part of the empowerment items prepared for beneficiaries at the rally.
Within minutes, the venue descended into disorder, with loud shouting and pushing as people struggled either to escape the commotion or secure some of the distributed items.
The City Boy Movement is among several political support groups mobilising grassroots support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, although the president has not officially declared his intention to seek a second term.
Meanwhile, the organisers of the rally and Imo State Police command are yet to issue an official statement over the chaos.
