(DDM) – Protesters under the banner of Concerned Citizens have stormed Igbinedion Education Centre in Benin City, Edo State, demanding strict disciplinary action following an alleged bullying incident involving some students of the school.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) learned that the protest took place on Monday as angry residents and activists gathered at the school premises to express outrage over the disturbing incident.

The demonstrators called on the school authorities to immediately expel the students involved in the alleged bullying.

They argued that allowing the accused students to remain in the institution could encourage further acts of intimidation and violence among students.

The protest group said the incident had sparked widespread concern among parents, guardians, and members of the public who fear that bullying may be growing within educational institutions.

Many protesters carried placards and chanted slogans demanding justice for the victim of the alleged bullying.

They insisted that schools must provide safe environments where students can learn without fear of harassment or physical intimidation.

According to some protesters, the incident reportedly involved a group of students who allegedly assaulted or humiliated another student, triggering anger among members of the community.

They said the matter gained public attention after videos and reports of the incident circulated widely on social media.

Concerned parents argued that bullying can cause serious emotional and psychological damage to victims, especially young students.

Education experts note that bullying can lead to long-term trauma, depression, poor academic performance, and loss of confidence among affected children.

The protesters urged school administrators to introduce stricter anti-bullying policies to prevent similar incidents in the future.

They also called on the Edo State Ministry of Education to investigate the matter and ensure accountability.

Some activists demanded that counseling and psychological support be provided to the affected student.

School officials have yet to release a detailed public statement regarding the allegations at the time of filing this report.

However, observers say the incident highlights growing concerns about student safety and discipline in Nigerian schools.

Across the country, bullying has increasingly become a topic of public debate, especially with the rise of social media where such incidents are quickly shared and discussed.

The protest in Benin City underscores the demand from parents and communities for stronger action against bullying in schools.

Many demonstrators said they would continue monitoring the situation until appropriate disciplinary measures are taken against those responsible.
