(DDM) — The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons has strongly condemned the reported assaults on women during a controversial festival in Ozoro, describing the acts as barbaric and a gross violation of human rights.

The agency’s reaction follows widespread outrage over reports that several women were harassed and assaulted by youths during the event in Isoko North Local Government Area.

NAPTIP expressed concern over the disturbing nature of the incident, noting that no cultural practice or social gathering should be used as a cover for abuse or criminal acts against women.

The agency emphasized that incidents of sexual violence not only harm victims physically and emotionally but also erode societal values and public trust.
