No fewer than 150 suspected bandits have reportedly drowned following a boat accident in Sokoto State.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Saturday evening in the Sabon Gida area, where a boat said to be carrying a large number of armed men capsized while attempting to cross a river.
Eyewitnesses said the vessel overturned suddenly, throwing all occupants into the water.
Local sources indicated that many of those onboard were unable to swim, contributing to the high number of casualties.
Preliminary reports suggest that none of the occupants survived, although the exact death toll has yet to be officially confirmed.
As of the time of reporting, security agencies had not issued any formal statement regarding the incident.
