(DDM) — A member of the House of Representatives, Adedeji Olajide, has formally declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, stating that his ambition is rooted in a strong desire to serve the people.
DDM gathered that Olajide, who is widely known by his political nickname “Odidiomo,” is a leading aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party in the state. His declaration has already begun to generate conversations within political circles as stakeholders assess the emerging race ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Speaking on his ambition, the lawmaker emphasized that his decision to seek the governorship seat was not driven by personal gain, but by a commitment to improve governance and deliver impactful leadership to the people of Oyo State. He noted that his experience in the National Assembly has equipped him with the legislative and administrative exposure needed to manage the complexities of state governance effectively.
Olajide further explained that his vision for Oyo State includes strengthening infrastructure, improving access to quality education, and enhancing economic opportunities for youths and small businesses. According to him, governance must be people-centered, with policies designed to directly address the needs and aspirations of ordinary citizens.
Political observers say his entry into the race signals the beginning of early alignments within the PDP, as aspirants position themselves ahead of what is expected to be a highly competitive contest. Oyo State has remained a politically strategic state in the South-West, with strong party structures and influential stakeholders shaping the outcome of elections.
The lawmaker also stressed the importance of unity within the party, calling on members of the PDP to remain focused and committed to building a formidable platform capable of winning the 2027 election. He urged party leaders and supporters to prioritize internal cohesion and collective interest over personal ambitions.
Olajide has been actively engaging with constituents and grassroots supporters, outlining his development agenda and seeking input from community leaders across the state. His consultations, analysts say, reflect a strategic approach to building a broad support base ahead of the primaries.
Meanwhile, political analysts believe that the 2027 governorship race in Oyo will be shaped by performance evaluations of the current administration, party dynamics, and voter expectations around governance delivery. Issues such as infrastructure development, security, employment, and economic growth are expected to dominate campaign discussions.
As preparations gradually begin, Olajide’s declaration adds momentum to the unfolding political landscape in Oyo State, setting the stage for what could become one of the most closely watched governorship contests in the region. His emphasis on service, development, and inclusive governance is likely to form the core message of his campaign in the months ahead.
