A Federal High Court in Kaduna has postponed the bail hearing for former Kaduna State governor Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai to April 14th.
The judge, Rilwanu Aikawa, set the new date after hearing arguments from both the defence and prosecution on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the court ordered that El-Rufai remain in custody at the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) until the bail application is heard.
El-Rufai, who faces a 10-count charge including alleged conversion of public property and money laundering, pleaded not guilty to all the allegations.
The former governor arrived at the court at 9 a.m. in a black Hilux, accompanied by DSS officials. Dressed in a light brown riga and cap, he appeared calm as he entered the courtroom.
Speaking to journalists after the proceedings, Ubong Akpan (SAN), one of El-Rufai’s lawyers, confirmed the adjournment and said the lead counsel would provide further statements later.
