The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s interpretation of a recent Court of Appeal ruling on the party’s leadership feud, calling it contradictory and politically influenced.
In a statement on Wednesday, ADC National Spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said the move to delist the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) members, including Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, from INEC’s portal goes against the facts of the case and raises serious concerns about impartiality.
“We reject INEC’s interpretation of the Court of Appeal ruling.
The press statement is full of contradictions and shows that the Commission has caved to pressure from a government uncomfortable with ADC’s growing influence,” Abdullahi said.
INEC said it was following the Court of Appeal’s March 12 ruling, which ordered all parties to maintain the status quo and refrain from actions that could affect the case’s outcome.
As a result, the names of the current NWC members were removed from INEC’s portal, while requests from the rival Nafiu Bala faction to be recognized as leaders were denied.
The commission also suspended all formal engagements with the party’s factions, including monitoring meetings, congresses, and conventions, until a final court decision is delivered.
The ADC said it is reviewing its options and would announce next steps soon. Abdullahi urged members and supporters to stay steadfast.
The party’s ongoing leadership tussle continues to draw attention as Nigeria heads toward the 2027 elections.
