(DDM) – The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced the commencement of a nationwide voter register revalidation exercise scheduled to begin on April 13.

Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) confirmed that the electoral body urged eligible voters to update and verify their information, warning that failure to revalidate details could affect participation in future elections.

INEC stated that the exercise is part of efforts to enhance the credibility, accuracy, and integrity of Nigeria’s voter register ahead of upcoming electoral cycles.

According to the commission, the revalidation process will allow voters to correct personal information, transfer registration locations, and confirm their status on the register.

The commission emphasised that a clean and verified voter register is essential for conducting free, fair, and transparent elections.

INEC disclosed that the exercise will be conducted through both online and physical channels to ensure wide accessibility for Nigerians.

Voters can begin the process online via the official portal before completing it at designated centres for biometric verification where required.

The commission also noted that in-person registration centres will be available across states and local government areas nationwide.

Special provisions are expected to be made for individuals who need to update lost or damaged voter cards.

INEC advised citizens to take advantage of the exercise early to avoid last-minute congestion and technical delays.

Observers say the move comes amid increasing scrutiny of Nigeria’s electoral system and growing demand for transparency.

They note that past elections have been marred by concerns over inaccurate voter data and logistical challenges.

Analysts argue that successful revalidation could significantly improve public confidence in the electoral process.

As the April 13 kickoff date approaches, attention remains on how effectively INEC will implement the process nationwide.
