In a heartwarming display of generosity and compassion, Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh and music executive Ubi Franklin have pledged ₦1 million each to assist a Nigerian mother who recently moved her family into an unfinished building.
The woman, Joy Asiwaju, captured national attention after sharing a video of herself and her children moving into a three-bedroom house still under construction. Despite missing basic amenities such as toilets and a proper ceiling, Joy maintained a positive outlook, giving viewers a “house tour” that highlighted both the challenges and her resilience.
Her previous rented apartment had been in poor condition, leaving her children constantly exposed to rain and unsafe living conditions. The video quickly went viral, prompting an outpouring of support from social media users and celebrities alike.
Moved by her story, Tonto Dikeh announced a ₦1 million donation, stating that she felt spiritually compelled to help complete the home. She also revealed that some of her friends had anonymously offered to contribute, turning the effort into a community initiative.
Ubi Franklin also joined in, naming Joy as the first beneficiary of his “40 for 40” campaign, which celebrates his 40th birthday by giving back ₦40 million to those in need. He confirmed that his ₦1 million pledge had already been sent, bringing immediate relief to the struggling family.
The momentum didn’t stop there. Nollywood actor Williams Uchemba was among the first to highlight Joy’s story, pledging another ₦1 million and committing to ensure that the house would be completed within 60 days.
Following the celebrity involvement, photos and videos have surfaced showing trucks delivering cement, sand, and other building materials to the site. Social media users also rallied behind the cause, offering to handle specific tasks like bathroom installation and plumbing.
Joy has since shared updates showing construction work in full swing, expressing heartfelt gratitude to everyone who contributed. “I can’t believe this is happening,” she wrote in one post. “From a viral video to a completed home God bless all of you for changing our lives.”
Her story has inspired many Nigerians, demonstrating the power of kindness, community, and social media to create real, tangible change in the lives of those facing hardship.
