UMUAHIA, ABIA STATE — The African Democratic Congress (ADC) caucus in Abia State has distanced itself from the actions of Mr. Don Norman Obinna, declaring that he lacks the authority to act or speak as the party’s chairman in the state.

DDM learnt that the state caucus issued the clarification amid growing internal tensions, stressing that Obinna’s claims to leadership do not reflect the official position of the party structure in Abia.

The caucus further affirmed its loyalty to the national leadership of the party under David Mark, signaling alignment with the recognised hierarchy at the national level.

Party stakeholders in the state emphasized that maintaining discipline and adherence to due process remains critical to preserving unity within the ADC.

They insisted that any individual acting outside the established leadership framework would not be recognised, warning members against engaging in activities capable of creating confusion within the party.

According to sources within the caucus, the move to publicly disown Obinna was necessary to prevent misinformation and to reaffirm the legitimacy of the party’s recognised leadership structure.

Background analysis shows that internal disputes over leadership positions are common in Nigeria’s political parties, particularly at the state level where factional interests often emerge.

Such disagreements are typically driven by struggles for control, influence, and positioning ahead of future elections, especially as political activities begin to intensify.

The ADC, like many other parties, has faced periodic internal challenges as it seeks to consolidate its structure and expand its influence across different states.

Analysts note that clear leadership structures are essential for political parties to function effectively, as ambiguity can weaken organisation, reduce public confidence, and affect electoral performance.

The endorsement of David Mark’s leadership by the Abia caucus is seen as a strategic effort to align with the national direction of the party and avoid fragmentation within its ranks.

Observers also point out that such declarations are often aimed at strengthening internal cohesion and sending a signal to members about where authority lies within the party.

The caucus reiterated its commitment to the ideals and constitution of the ADC, urging members to remain united and focused on advancing the party’s objectives.

As political alignments continue to evolve ahead of future elections, developments like this are expected to shape internal dynamics and influence the overall direction of party politics in Abia State.

The situation underscores the broader challenge of managing internal democracy within political parties in Nigeria, where leadership disputes frequently test unity and organisational stability.
