BREAKING: Peter Obi Resigns from ADC, Cites Division, Endless Court Battles

Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi has  formally resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), bringing an abrupt end to his time in the opposition party.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate announced his decision on Sunday in a statement shared on his official X account.

Obi said his exit was not driven by personal grievances with the party’s leadership.

He expressed respect for the national chairman, David Mark, as well as Atiku Abubakar and other senior figures.

Instead, he pointed to deepening internal issues within the party, including persistent legal battles, factional disputes and a growing atmosphere of mistrust.

According to him, the same pattern of instability he experienced in the Labour Party appears to be repeating itself in the ADC diverting attention from national issues to internal power struggles.

Obi criticised what he described as a style of politics focused more on control and exclusion than on service and nation-building.

His resignation comes at a time of heightened political realignment, with opposition figures exploring new alliances ahead of the 2027 general elections.
