Trump Says US Not Likely to Accept New Iran Proposal

US President Donald Trump has cast doubt on a new peace proposal from Iran, saying he is unlikely to accept it while leaving open the possibility of further confrontation between both countries.

Speaking on Sunday, Trump said he would review the proposal sent by Tehran but suggested it does not go far enough to be considered acceptable.

He also warned that military action remains a possibility if tensions escalate again.

The development comes as negotiations between the United States and Iran remain at a standstill following a ceasefire that took effect on April 8 after months of conflict.

A previous attempt at talks reportedly collapsed without agreement, leaving both sides entrenched.

Iranian media say the latest proposal, submitted through mediators in Islamabad, contains a 14-point framework aimed at ending hostilities.

It reportedly includes measures related to the broader conflict and new arrangements for the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route that has become central to the dispute.

Trump, however, dismissed the plan in strong terms, saying Iran has not yet “paid a big enough price” for its past actions and signalling little confidence in the diplomatic process.

Tensions remain high on both sides.

Iranian officials say they are prepared for either renewed talks or continued confrontation, with senior military figures warning that another conflict cannot be ruled out.

At the heart of the standoff is Iran’s leverage over the Strait of Hormuz, through which a large share of the world’s oil supply passes.

Disruptions in the waterway have already driven global oil prices up by about 50 percent compared to pre-war levels.

Iran has also proposed changes to how the strait is managed, including using part of its revenues for military infrastructure and economic development, further underscoring how central the route has become in its strategy.

Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts, both Washington and Tehran remain far apart, with no clear sign yet of a breakthrough.
