A contractor working with the Federal Aviation Administration has been arrested after allegedly using his office computer to plan and threaten an attack on US President Donald Trump, according to prosecutors.
The suspect, identified as Dean DelleChiaie, is accused of carrying out a series of disturbing online searches while at work.
Investigators say he looked up ways to smuggle a firearm into a federal building and even typed out phrases explicitly stating an intention to kill the former president.
Authorities say his actions didn’t stop there. He allegedly dug up personal details about the families of Vice President JD Vance and Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth, raising further alarm among investigators.
The case came to light after DelleChiaie reportedly asked his workplace IT team to erase his browsing history a request that triggered suspicion and led to a report to law enforcement.
When questioned by a Secret Service agent in February, he is said to have admitted to carrying out the searches, claiming frustration with the current administration played a role in his actions.
Prosecutors also allege that he later sent a direct email to the White House, openly threatening Trump and accusing him of wrongdoing tied to global conflicts.
He now faces serious federal charges, with a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and a hefty fine if convicted.
This arrest comes amid a worrying spike in threats against public officials in the United States.
In just the past week, authorities have pursued multiple similar cases, including one involving former FBI director James Comey over a controversial social media post, as well as separate arrests in South Carolina and Florida tied to threats against Trump.
Law enforcement officials say the trend is becoming increasingly concerning, warning that threats against political figures are no longer isolated incidents but part of a growing pattern.
