WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States has outlined travel and visa requirements for international fans planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup, urging visitors to begin preparations early ahead of the global football tournament.

The tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is expected to attract millions of football supporters from across the world.

US authorities said fans travelling to the country must possess valid international passports and obtain the appropriate entry visa before departure unless they qualify under existing visa waiver arrangements.

Officials emphasized that travellers should ensure their passports remain valid for the required duration of their stay in the country.

According to the guidance released, visitors applying for US visas may need to provide documents including proof of accommodation, financial capability, travel itinerary, and evidence of intent to return to their home countries after the tournament.

Authorities also advised applicants to complete visa procedures early because of the expected increase in global travel demand ahead of the competition.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is projected to become one of the largest sporting events in history due to the expanded format involving 48 national teams.

Security and immigration officials said additional screening measures may also be implemented at airports and border entry points during the tournament period.

Travellers were urged to comply fully with customs, immigration, and health regulations to avoid delays or denial of entry.

Experts say visa appointment demand is likely to rise significantly as football fans across Africa, Europe, Asia, and Latin America prepare for the competition.

For many Nigerian football supporters, the World Cup represents both a sporting event and a tourism opportunity, increasing interest in US travel requirements.

Travel consultants have advised intending visitors to begin financial planning early due to high expected costs for flights, accommodation, transportation, and match tickets.

Analysts note that the tournament is expected to generate billions of dollars in tourism and commercial activity across host cities.

The World Cup will be staged across several major cities in North America, with fans expected to travel extensively between host venues during the tournament.

Observers say the event will place enormous pressure on travel infrastructure, hospitality services, and immigration systems across the host nations.

Attention now shifts to ticket sales, travel arrangements, and visa processing as excitement gradually builds toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
