A senior Russian diplomat has warned that tensions between Moscow and the NATO alliance are edging closer to a dangerous point, raising the risk of a direct confrontation with potentially catastrophic consequences.
Sergei Ryabkov made the remarks in an interview with Russia’s state-run TASS news agency, saying the current escalation in global tensions is pushing both sides into more volatile territory.
He pointed to what he described as growing rhetoric in European capitals about an “imminent threat” of high-intensity war with NATO, arguing that this narrative is worsening the security climate.
Ryabkov also accused Western countries of provocative behaviour in the nuclear sphere, saying such actions are increasing “strategic risks” and the possibility of a direct military clash between Russia and NATO forces.
His comments come amid already heightened tensions between Russia and Western governments, with the war in Ukraine continuing to strain relations and fuel fears of broader conflicts across Europe.
