Nigerian striker Victor Mbaoma has embarked on a fresh chapter in his football career after completing a move to Kenyan football powerhouse Tusker FC, ending his latest spell in the Nigeria Premier Football League with Remo Stars. The experienced forward has signed a one-year contract with the former Kenyan champions as the club intensifies preparations for the 2026/27 season and its continental ambitions.
The transfer represents another significant milestone for one of Nigeria’s most consistent goalscorers over the past decade. At 29, Mbaoma arrives in Kenya with an impressive résumé built across the NPFL and East African football, where his eye for goal and wealth of experience have earned him widespread recognition.
Speaking after his unveiling, the striker expressed his excitement about joining one of Kenya’s most decorated clubs. He revealed that Tusker’s vision, winning tradition and desire to compete successfully in CAF competitions convinced him to accept the offer despite interest from elsewhere.
“I am really delighted to be joining Tusker FC. The coach and management presented the club’s project to me, and I was attracted to it. I also looked at the club’s history and saw a team built on success. Their ambition to excel both domestically and in continental competitions made this an easy decision,” Mbaoma said.
Mbaoma leaves Remo Stars after an impressive individual campaign in which he finished as one of the Nigeria Premier Football League’s joint leading scorers with 14 league goals. His goalscoring exploits played a crucial role throughout the season and reinforced his reputation as one of the country’s most dependable centre-forwards.
Although his stay at Remo Stars lasted only one season, he quickly became a key figure within the squad through his leadership, movement inside the penalty area and ability to score in important matches. His outstanding performances earned him the club’s Player of the Season award, underlining the impact he made during his brief spell.
Born in Lagos, Mbaoma built his reputation through determination and consistent performances across several Nigerian clubs. He previously featured for Akwa United and Enyimba, where he established himself as one of the league’s most feared finishers. His prolific scoring record eventually earned him recognition beyond Nigeria and a call-up to the Super Eagles setup, highlighting the quality he possesses in front of goal.
This will not be his first experience in East African football. Before returning to Nigeria, Mbaoma enjoyed a successful spell with Rwandan giants APR, where he emerged as the league’s top scorer with 15 goals during the 2024/25 campaign. His performances helped strengthen APR’s domestic ambitions while proving he could adapt successfully outside Nigeria.
Tusker FC believe that experience will be invaluable as they prepare for another demanding campaign. The Nairobi-based club is among the most successful teams in Kenyan football, boasting multiple league titles and a proud tradition of competing in CAF inter-club competitions. Club officials see Mbaoma as a player capable of adding leadership, goals and valuable continental experience to an ambitious squad.
Head coach Julien Mette welcomed the Nigerian’s arrival, describing him as an experienced striker who understands the demands of elite African football. The coach also expressed confidence that the partnership would help the club achieve its objectives during the new season.
For Mbaoma, continental football remains a major motivation. Having previously featured in both the CAF Champions League and the CAF Confederation Cup, he believes his experience can help Tusker progress further in Africa’s premier club competitions.
The move also highlights the growing appeal of East African football for Nigerian players seeking fresh opportunities and competitive environments. Kenyan clubs continue to invest in experienced professionals capable of raising standards on and off the pitch, while Nigerian footballers remain highly regarded for their technical quality and competitive mentality.
As Tusker begin preparations for the new campaign, expectations will be high that Mbaoma can deliver the goals needed to challenge for domestic honours and make a meaningful impact in continental football. If his record in Nigeria and Rwanda is any indication, the prolific striker could quickly establish himself as one of the standout performers in the Kenyan Premier League.
For Mbaoma, the transfer is more than a change of club. It is another opportunity to demonstrate that his goalscoring instincts remain as sharp as ever while inspiring Tusker FC to chase silverware both at home and across the African continent.
