Kogi’s vast territory bigger than S’east — Commissioner

Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, has attributed the state’s security challenges to its vast geographical size, describing the territory as larger than the combined landmass of Nigeria’s South-East region.

While speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Fanwo said the expansive terrain makes surveillance and security operations more demanding.

He maintained that the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo is intensifying efforts to improve security across the state.

According to the commissioner, the government has continued to invest in security infrastructure while strengthening community-based security initiatives aimed at tackling criminal activities more effectively.

Fanwo said the state has adopted a proactive security model that brings together the Kogi State Vigilante Service and local hunters as the first responders before the intervention of conventional security agencies.

He noted that the partnership has improved intelligence gathering, accelerated emergency response, and strengthened community policing, leading to better security outcomes in several parts of the state.

“The landmass of Kogi State alone is bigger than the entire Southeast combined. That naturally makes securing every part of the state a difficult task, but we have accepted the responsibility. We are investing in security infrastructure and strengthening our local security architecture to ensure effective protection of lives and property,” he said.

Fanwo reiterated the Ododo administration’s commitment to sustaining investments in security and maintaining close collaboration with security agencies and local communities to preserve peace and ensure the safety of residents across the state.
