Davido Declares Adeleke Leading Osun Poll, Urges Vigilance

OSOGBO, NIGERIA — Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is cruising to victory in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election as votes continue to be counted across the state .

In a series of posts on X as collation progressed, the singer confidently asserted that the incumbent governor is on course for reelection on the platform of the Accord Party, dismissing the All Progressives Congress’s chances. “Gov Adeleke is cruising to victory. Shame APC,” Davido wrote, also claiming that the APC had lost in the ward of former Osun Governor Bisi Akande . “Their group chat don scatter! Baba Akande lost his ward,” he added .

The singer, who has openly mobilised support for his uncle, also warned residents to remain vigilant against what he described as alleged plans by former Osun Governor Gboyega Oyetola to manipulate the process. “I implore Osun people to stay vigilant all night and resist plans of Oyetola. Na we get Osogbo! Imole ti woleeeee,” he declared .

 

Davido specifically cautioned voters against accepting results circulated through unofficial APC social media channels, urging them to verify figures on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s Result Viewing Portal . “Every election result posted from APC handles consider it fake. They are failing already. Stay woke guys,” he wrote .

He called on security agencies to remain deployed at electoral locations and insisted that results from polling units must be uploaded to IReV in the presence of voters. “Make sure your polling unit results are uploaded on IReV in your presence and make sure the figures are entered on eEC8A (electronic EC8A). We will follow our votes bumper to bumper,” he stated .

 

The musician also appealed directly to INEC over delays in result uploads, demanding transparency and timely updates . Earlier in the week, Davido had raised the stakes by calling on US President Donald Trump to intervene in the election to ensure a free and fair process, warning of the consequences of a compromised vote .

As of Saturday evening, INEC officials had commenced sorting and counting at polling units, with results from 1,695 of the 3,763 units uploaded to the IReV portal . However, the election has been marred by reports of intimidation, vote-buying, and isolated violence in some areas . Adeleke, the APC’s Bola Oyebamiji, and ADC’s Najeem Salaam are the three major contenders in the tightly contested race .
