Anambra PDP protests Metuh’s arrest, dumps senatorial re-run

Key aspirants in the planned repeat senatorial election saw the move as a high level ploy to give some candidates of other opposing parties’ easy win at the expense of the PDP.

“…It is with every sense of humility that I dutifully write to inform us all that, the long hatched plans by the General Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressive Congress Federal Government of Nigeria, to silence the voice of opposition and to clampdown on notable leaders of our great Party.” – Emeakayi [above]

Announcing its plans to shelve and suspend its scheduled programme to organize a primary on Jan 9, 2016 for the nomination of its candidate in the coming poll, the Anambra State chairman of the party, Prince Ken Emeakayi told newsmen that it was a very sad and difficult thing to do, but that they apparently have no option in the circumstances.

In its press statement, copy of which was made available to The Authority, the state chairman pointed out that, “…It is with every sense of humility that I dutifully write to inform us all that, the long hatched plans by the General Muhammadu Buhari led All Progressive Congress Federal Government of Nigeria, to silence the voice of opposition and to clampdown on notable leaders of our great Party from the South East as a means of gaining inroad into the geo political zone has indeed begun with the arrest and continued detention under dehumanized condition of the Leader of PDP in Anambra State, Chief Olisa Metuh.”

Emeakayi bemoaned what he described as “dehumanized condition” of Chief Metuh’s detention who is the leader of his party in the state and the South East geopolitical zone, by the Economic and Finacial Crimes and other Related Offenses Commission (EFCC) for days now.

He therefore noted that “Consequently, all programs and activities of Peoples Democratic Party in Anambra State including the congresses scheduled for Thursday January 7, to Saturday January 9, 2016, have been suspended and postponed indefinitely until the release and freedom of our Leader Chief Olisa Metuh, as no true son goes clubbing when the father is in the torture chamber of kidnappers.”

According to him, the party has already embarked on a massive nationwide prayers crusade to seek God’s intervention in the party’s multifaceted challenges.

Emeakayi, while announcing the decision, noted that, “We shall continue to remain in the attitude of prayers, law abiding, making supplications with thanksgiving to our God, and the God of justice, confident that darkness can never overcome the light.

However, the decision has elicited mixed reactions from different camps of key aspirants in the planned repeat senatorial election as some saw the move as a high level ploy to give some candidates of other opposing parties’ easy win at the expense of the PDP.
