An aide and associate of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Dauda Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir”, has been shot dead in Osogbo, the state capital.
Oyeyemi was reportedly killed by unidentified gunmen on Sunday amid a dispute over the leadership of a motor park in the state.
Sources said Oyeyemi had been seeking to take over the leadership of the park, which is currently headed by Wakili Nurudeen, popularly known as Alowonle.
The dispute was said to have created tension between the two groups.
Oyeyemi reportedly attended a meeting at Mayfair Motor Park with members of his group as part of efforts to resolve the leadership dispute.
However, masked gunmen allegedly stormed the meeting and shot him in the head.
An eyewitness said the attack caused panic as members of both the Alowonle and Emir groups fled the area.
The source added that a vehicle carrying some members of the Emir group was involved in an accident near Campus Gate while they were trying to escape.
Following the killing, tension reportedly heightened at Oyeyemi’s base in the Asoje area of Osogbo, where his associates were said to have become agitated.
Some members of the Emir group accused the Alowonle faction of being behind the killing.
However, the allegation had not been independently established as of press time.
Confirming the incident, the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, called on security agencies to investigate the killing and arrest those responsible.
Rasheed urged the authorities to ensure that the perpetrators were prosecuted and brought to justice.
