ENUGU, NIGERIA — The African Democratic Congress candidate for the House of Representatives in Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency, Hon. Maduegbunam Nelson Chinedu, has pledged to advocate for federal support for street lighting and other critical community infrastructure if elected in 2027, describing functional infrastructure as essential to the safety, productivity, and quality of life of the people.
In a policy statement released on Tuesday by his campaign organisation, the Nelson Media Project, Chinedu said he would engage relevant federal ministries, agencies, and development programmes to attract interventions that can support solar-powered streetlights, public lighting projects, community facilities, and other infrastructure that improve everyday life.
“I believe that functional community infrastructure is essential to the safety, productivity and quality of life of our people. If given the opportunity to represent Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency, I will advocate for federal support for street lighting and other critical community infrastructure across our communities,” he stated.
The ADC candidate noted that street lighting can contribute to safer and more accessible communities, while functional public infrastructure can support local businesses, improve movement, and create a better environment for social and economic activities. He emphasised that many communities in the constituency lack basic infrastructure, including streetlights, and that this had contributed to insecurity and hindered economic activity.
“I will engage relevant federal ministries, agencies and development programmes to attract interventions that can support solar-powered streetlights, public lighting projects, community facilities and other infrastructure that improve everyday life,” Chinedu said.
He said his approach would include legislative oversight and regular engagement with constituents to identify communities with urgent infrastructure needs and to advocate for appropriate federal interventions. He stressed that representation must translate into practical opportunities and development for the people.

He said his legislative agenda would prioritise interventions that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of constituents.
“My commitment is clear: I will use my position in the National Assembly to advocate for federal programmes and interventions that improve street lighting, strengthen community infrastructure and enhance the quality of life across Igbo-Etiti/Uzo-Uwani Federal Constituency,” he said.
The policy statement is the latest in a series of commitments made by the ADC candidate, who has outlined plans for healthcare, education, job creation, human capital development, and infrastructure in the constituency. His campaign has positioned him as a representative who will prioritise the needs of his constituents and work to attract federal resources to the area. For now, his message is clear: community infrastructure will be at the heart of his legislative agenda if elected.
