NSUKKA, NIGERIA — Residents of Nsukka in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State have expressed their intention to vote for Chief Obodeze Ocho, the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress, in the February 6, 2027 election, citing his track record, competence, and capacity to transform the state.
The residents, who spoke in separate interviews with our correspondent in Nsukka on Monday, said Ocho, who hails from Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area, possesses an enviable record and the vision to develop and re-engineer Enugu State. They described him as a man of integrity who walks his talk.
Mr. Anthony Eze, a community leader, said he would vote for Ocho because the candidate is honest, transparent, and competent. “I urge residents of Enugu State, especially Enugu North Senatorial District, to massively vote for him on February 6,” he said.
Mrs. Jenneth Ogbonna, a retired school principal, urged Nsukka people to shun any form of inducement, including bags of rice, wrappers, or cash gifts, that could mortgage their conscience and prevent them from voting for the right candidate. She noted that Nsukka people have suffered marginalisation and underdevelopment since 1999, despite contributing over 54 percent of votes in governorship elections.
“Records have shown that Nsukka people contribute over 54 percent of votes in governorship elections since 1999. With massive votes for Ocho, our illustrious son will be in Lion Building in 2027,” she said. She urged voters across the state to support Ocho to end what she described as excessive taxation that has negatively affected businesses.
Mr. Sunday Ugwu, a politician, said although he belongs to another political party, he and his family members would vote for the ADC candidate because of his track record, capacity, and competence. “As an experienced politician, nobody can deceive me with any form of political gift. I don’t vote political party; I vote personality, capacity, and competency,” he said.
Ugwu commended Ocho for promising to implement a bottom-to-top economic model if elected, which he said would revitalise rural communities instead of relying on top-down state resource allocation. He noted that Ocho’s policy framework outlines clear milestones for increasing public resource accountability, expanding vocational skill acquisition centres, and deploying infrastructure tailored directly to rural productivity.
He urged voters in Enugu North Senatorial Zone to support Ocho to fix infrastructural deficiencies in the district. “If Nsukka people rally round Ocho and massively vote for him on February 6, he will score 54 percent of votes cast and become governor-elect,” Ugwu said.
“It has been proved since 1999 that Nsukka people contribute over 54 percent of votes cast in every governorship election in Enugu State. With 54 percent of the vote, Ocho will be elected Governor of Enugu State on February 6, 2027, while other governorship candidates will share the remaining 46 percent,” he added.
The residents’ support for Ocho is seen as a significant boost for the ADC candidate, who has been gaining momentum in the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election. His campaign has focused on economic transformation, rural development, accountability, and inclusive governance, resonating with voters who feel marginalised by successive administrations.
Ocho’s promise to implement a bottom-to-top economic model has particularly struck a chord with rural communities, who have long complained of being neglected in the state’s development planning. His commitment to expanding vocational skill acquisition centres and deploying infrastructure tailored to rural productivity has also been welcomed by youths and artisans.
As the 2027 elections approach, the ADC candidate’s growing support in Nsukka and other parts of Enugu North could prove decisive in the governorship contest. For now, the message from Nsukka is clear: the people are ready for change, and they believe Ocho is the man to deliver it.
