The All Progressives Congress has passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decision was part of resolutions reached at the party’s 195th National Working Committee meeting and a three-day National Strategic Retreat held in Maiduguri, Borno State.
Reading the communiqué at the end of the retreat on Saturday, APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, said a review of the party’s structures showed that it remained united and prepared for the 2027 elections.
“We get a clean bill of health with the APC as a party. I trust strongly that the party is strong, the party is healthy, the party is prepared, and the party is oiled for the 2027 general elections,” Yilwatda said.
The APC chairman said the NWC endorsed Tinubu and Shettima as the party’s presidential ticket, alongside other candidates produced through its primary elections.
“We pass a vote of confidence on our presidential candidate, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, and all the other candidates of our party that were elected in the primary elections for the 2027 general election,” he said.
Yilwatda also defended the quality of the party’s candidates across elective positions, saying the APC had produced candidates it considered qualified and prepared to serve.
“We strongly believe that we produce some of the most pedigreed candidates, most acceptable and the most prepared to be elected to serve the people of Nigeria,” he said.
On internal disagreements within the party, the NWC resolved to strengthen reconciliation efforts by directing state, local government and ward chapters to establish peace committees where they do not already exist.
“We resolved that we must continue to make reconciliation where we need to make reconciliation at all levels,” Yilwatda said.
He added that national party officials would play a more active role in the party’s campaign ahead of the elections.
“The National Working Committee also resolved to lead the campaign from the front and all the engagement of the party to ensure total victory for all our candidates in the forthcoming general elections,” the communiqué stated.
The retreat, themed “Strengthening Party Organisation, Unity and Electoral Readiness Towards 2027,” was held from Thursday to Saturday.
It brought together members of the NWC, state chairmen and other party stakeholders from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to discuss the party’s organisation and preparations for the 2027 elections.
