The Presidency has dismissed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s bid to contest the 2027 presidential election, describing the ambition as a “joke.”
Political Adviser to President Bola Tinubu, Ibrahim Kabiru Masari, made the remark while addressing members of the Jigawa State Academics Forum.
Masari said Atiku would not achieve his political ambition through what he described as desperation, urging the former Vice President to focus on his ongoing court cases.
“Even Atiku himself knows he is just joking and kidding,” Masari said.
The presidential aide also described the All Progressives Congress as the dominant political party in Nigeria, framing the 2027 election as a choice between the continuation of the Tinubu administration’s programmes and the opposition.
He cited infrastructure development, economic diversification, security and poverty reduction as areas the administration was prioritising.
Masari also commended the Jigawa State Academics Forum for endorsing Tinubu and Governor Umar Namadi for another term.
On education, the presidential aide said the Federal Government was giving priority to the sector, adding that the university academic calendar had stabilised and students were benefiting from the federal student loan scheme.
His comments came as political parties and opposition figures intensify preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
