Nollywood actors Patience Ozokwor, Kanayo O. Kanayo, Charles Awurum and Destiny Etiko have sparked reactions online after making remarks about the differences they perceive between Nigerian and Ghanaian women, as well as the long-running debate over which country makes the best jollof rice.

In a video circulating on social media, the actors were heard making comments about Ghanaian and Nigerian women while also engaging in the familiar Nigeria-Ghana rivalry over jollof rice.

The conversation took a provocative turn when they claimed that Ghanaian women are less sexually active than Nigerian women.

The remarks have attracted attention online, with social media users debating the comments and questioning the basis for making broad comparisons between women from two different countries.

The actors also turned their attention to food, confidently declaring Nigerian jollof rice superior to the Ghanaian version.

They argued that Nigerians introduced Ghanaian audiences to jollof rice and suggested that the Nigerian version remains the standard.

The jollof debate has long been a lighthearted source of rivalry between Nigerians and Ghanaians, with people from both countries frequently defending their own preparation and claiming theirs is the preferred version.

The latest comments have therefore added another chapter to the playful but sometimes heated Nigeria-Ghana social media rivalry.

While the actors’ remarks about jollof rice were largely framed around national pride and banter, their comments about women have generated a different kind of discussion, with some users describing them as stereotypical and others treating them as entertainment.

There is no objective basis for using such broad statements to measure the sexual behaviour of women across an entire nationality, and individual experiences cannot reasonably represent millions of people.

The comments have nevertheless continued to circulate, drawing reactions from Nigerians and Ghanaians who have weighed in on both the cultural rivalry and the actors’ choice of words.

Beyond the debate over who makes better jollof, the episode has once again demonstrated how quickly Nigeria-Ghana banter can generate conversation online, particularly when popular entertainers become involved.
