The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council has accused the All Progressives Congress of using threats and intimidation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The ADC PCC made the allegation over a reported statement by the APC Edo State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, in which he allegedly threatened voters with AK-47 rifles if they refused to support the ruling party.
In a statement on Sunday, the council’s Director of Media and Publicity, Kola Ologbondiyan, called on the police, Department of State Services and Independent National Electoral Commission to investigate the alleged threat.
Ologbondiyan said the ADC had expected the APC leadership and President Bola Tinubu to condemn the alleged statement or demand a retraction but had received no response.
He described the alleged threat as unacceptable, arguing that it could violate provisions of the Electoral Act and the Constitution.
The ADC spokesman also questioned the APC’s reported claim that it would secure 2.5 million votes for Tinubu in Edo State in 2027, saying such an outcome could only be determined through a free, fair and credible election.
He linked the alleged statement to what he described as growing political tension over hardship, insecurity and dissatisfaction among voters in Edo State.
The council further called for an investigation into a reported attack on ADC members and the destruction of supporters’ vehicles in Gegu, Koton Karfi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Ologbondiyan urged security agencies to identify and prosecute anyone found responsible for the attack.
The ADC PCC also appealed to the United Nations, European Union, African Union, ECOWAS, United States and other democratic partners to monitor developments ahead of the 2027 election.
The council said intimidation should not prevent Nigerians from exercising their constitutional right to vote, describing the election as a referendum on the performance of the APC-led administration.
