Arteta Becomes Arsenal’s Most Successful Manager by Win Rate

Mikel Arteta has moved ahead of Arsenal’s managerial greats to record the highest win percentage in the club’s history among managers who have taken charge of at least 50 matches.

The Spaniard’s achievement adds another significant milestone to a tenure that has already transformed Arsenal from a club struggling for consistency into Premier League champions.

Arteta currently boasts a 60.9 per cent win rate across his Arsenal career, putting him ahead of legendary managers including Arsène Wenger, George Graham and Herbert Chapman in the statistical ranking.

The figure is particularly notable because Arteta has now managed the club for more than 360 matches, giving the record a substantial sample size rather than being based on a short managerial spell.

Wenger remains one of the most decorated managers in Arsenal history after spending more than two decades at the club, winning three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups. His greatest achievement came during the 2003/04 campaign when Arsenal went through the entire league season unbeaten.

Yet when it comes specifically to winning percentage, Arteta has now moved above his former mentor.

The achievement comes after perhaps the most important season of Arteta’s managerial career.

After finishing as Premier League runners-up in three consecutive seasons, Arsenal finally ended their 22-year wait for the league title in the 2025/26 campaign.

The Gunners secured the championship with a game to spare after Manchester City were held to a 1-1 draw by Bournemouth, making Arsenal mathematically unreachable at the top of the table.

Arteta’s title triumph also earned him the Premier League Manager of the Season award, his first recognition for the honour, after Arsenal produced one of the strongest campaigns in the club’s recent history.

The team combined defensive discipline with consistent results throughout the season, keeping 19 clean sheets and conceding only 27 goals, the best defensive record in the division. Arsenal also scored 71 goals, finishing second only to Manchester City’s 77.

For Arteta, the journey has been a gradual one.

He took over at Arsenal in December 2019 after previously working as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City. His early years were marked by rebuilding, tactical adjustments and intense pressure to return Arsenal to the top of English football.

There were setbacks along the way, particularly as Arsenal repeatedly fell short in the title race.

But the club continued to back his project, and the breakthrough eventually arrived.

The Premier League triumph changed the perception of Arteta’s time in north London. What had initially been viewed by some as an ambitious rebuilding project had become a title-winning operation.

His latest statistical milestone now gives further weight to his growing reputation within Arsenal’s history.

Arteta has also recently committed his future to the club, signing a contract extension that will keep him at Arsenal until June 2030. The agreement followed the club’s successful 2025/26 campaign and reflects Arsenal’s desire to build on the foundations established under his leadership.

However, the win-rate record alone does not make Arteta Arsenal’s most decorated manager. Wenger’s trophy haul and longevity remain unmatched in several areas, while other managers such as Chapman and Graham occupy important places in the club’s history.

What makes Arteta’s achievement significant is that his statistical dominance has come while managing Arsenal during an era of intense competition in the Premier League.

With the 2025/26 title finally secured and his contract extended, Arteta now has an opportunity to strengthen his place among Arsenal’s greatest managers.

For a coach who arrived with the task of rebuilding a struggling side, becoming the club’s highest-rated manager by win percentage represents another indication of just how far the Arsenal project has come.
