A young Nigerian family, including a nursing mother and their infant daughter, is reportedly being held by armed kidnappers in Kaduna State, with the abductors allegedly demanding ₦300 million for their release.

The family has been identified as Ahmed Abubakar, also known as Ahmed Zakka, his wife, Nafisa Musa, and their seven-month-old daughter. A video circulating on social media shows Ahmed appealing for help while in captivity with his wife and baby. The family was reportedly abducted from Millennium City, in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

According to details accompanying the appeal, Ahmed hails from Zakka, a community in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State. He reportedly earned his bachelor’s degree in 2024 and had previously worked as a teacher while engaging in the buying and selling of used cars and household appliances to support himself.

Ahmed married Nafisa on September 28, 2019, and the couple welcomed their daughter on March 20, 2026. Their baby is now caught in a frightening situation no family should have to endure.

The reported ₦300 million ransom demand has raised concerns about how the family’s relatives could possibly raise such an enormous sum. At Nigeria’s ₦70,000 monthly minimum wage, the amount is equivalent to more than 357 years of wages, assuming every naira earned was saved.

The incident comes amid continued concerns over kidnappings for ransom in Kaduna State, where families have repeatedly faced huge demands from armed groups. In September, reports emerged that a seven-month-old baby and other residents had been abducted during attacks in communities within Chikun Local Government Area.

The family’s plight has renewed calls for urgent intervention by security agencies and government authorities to secure the safe release of the captives, particularly the infant and her nursing mother.

As the video circulates, the family’s immediate need remains clear: their safe return home.

The reported ransom demand and the family’s circumstances have not been independently confirmed by Kaduna State authorities in the reports reviewed.
