Nollywood actor Chinedu Ikedieze, popularly known as Aki, has reportedly restricted comments on his Instagram birthday post to Seyi Tinubu following criticism from some Nigerians over his public tribute to the president’s son.
The development was reported by Legit.ng on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, after the veteran actor’s birthday message attracted reactions online.
Ikedieze had taken to Instagram on Tuesday, October 13, to celebrate Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing him in warm terms and expressing appreciation for his support.
In the message, the actor revealed that Seyi was one of his biggest supporters, adding that the gesture meant a lot to him.
“Also, I have to say that it means the world to me to know that you’re one of my biggest supporters. I sincerely appreciate you,” Aki wrote.
The actor also praised Seyi for what he described as his humility, despite the privileges, security arrangements and demanding schedule associated with his position.
“Beyond all the titles, the security, and the busy schedules, you still maintain a level of humility that is second to none. Thank you for always keeping it real,” he added.
However, the celebratory message reportedly did not go down well with some social media users, who criticised the actor for publicly expressing such admiration for the president’s son.
Some critics reportedly described Aki as a sell-out, with the controversy sparking further conversations about celebrities, political associations and public accountability.
Following the reactions, the actor’s Instagram comment section was reportedly restricted, preventing the post from attracting further public comments.
However, there has been no verified public statement from Ikedieze explaining his decision to restrict the comment section or confirming that the backlash was the reason behind it.
The controversy comes amid heightened political conversations in Nigeria, with public figures and entertainers increasingly finding themselves under scrutiny over their relationships with prominent politicians and members of the political establishment.
Seyi Tinubu, who has maintained a visible presence in Nigeria’s political and social circles, has previously appeared alongside several entertainers and influential personalities. Such interactions have sometimes generated debate online, particularly among Nigerians who closely follow the country’s political developments.
For Aki, whose decades-long career has made him one of Nollywood’s recognisable comic actors, the birthday tribute has placed his social media activity at the centre of a fresh online debate.
While some critics have questioned the actor’s decision to publicly celebrate the president’s son, the reported backlash reflects the wider scrutiny celebrities can face when their personal relationships intersect with politically sensitive issues.
As of the time of reporting, neither Aki nor Seyi Tinubu had issued a verified public response specifically addressing the controversy surrounding the restricted comment section.
The actor’s birthday message has therefore continued to generate discussion, with questions remaining about whether the decision to limit comments was directly connected to the criticism or was made for another reason.
