LAGOS, NIGERIA — Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has ruled out supporting the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 presidential election. This is despite his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, declaring support for President Bola Tinubu.

Davido made his position known during an interview with News Central TV. The video has circulated widely on social media.

Family vs. Personal Choice

The singer’s comments come after the Osun State governorship election. His uncle secured another term in office. The governor subsequently declared support for Tinubu ahead of the next presidential election.

Davido explained that his uncle’s political decision was a personal choice. He said it should not be taken as an indication of his own position.

He maintained that he had fulfilled his responsibility to the people of Osun State and his family during the governorship election. He said he was not under any obligation to adopt a particular presidential candidate because of family ties.

Reflecting on the Osun Election

Reflecting on his role in the governorship campaign, Davido said he played a major part in the victory. He described the win as a significant achievement.

“I defeated 17 governors with all their power, with all their immunity, escort commanders, DSS, with all their billions. I defeated them with just a phone,” Davido said.

“For now, I feel like I did what I had to do for the Osun people and my family. You can’t force me to have a presidential candidate. My uncle might have his personal reasons for the gain of the state.”

Davido also reflected on his past political involvement. He said he had supported Atiku Abubakar when he was in the PDP. He also said he supported the APC in 2015 when his late uncle was part of the party.

“But right now, I don’t have a presidential candidate. It might change, sha. It’s not going to be APC, but everybody should have their own,” he said.

His comments indicate that he is not currently backing any opposition candidate either. He left the possibility of endorsing another candidate open. But he made it clear that the APC would not be his choice for the 2027 presidential contest.

Governor Adeleke’s Endorsement

Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his endorsement of Tinubu in March 2026. He described the president as a leader whose continued political influence was important to the South-West.

His position remained unchanged after his victory in the Osun governorship election. Davido played an active role in his uncle’s campaign for a second term. He participated in mobilisation efforts and used his public profile to encourage support for the governor.

Election Result

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner of the August 15, 2026, governorship election. He polled 511,067 votes. His closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the APC, received 444,815 votes. This gave the incumbent a margin of 66,252 votes.

The result secured Adeleke another four-year term in office. For now, Davido’s political future remains uncertain. He has made it clear that he will not be supporting the APC in 2027. But he has not yet decided who he will support.
