Airtel Africa reported higher H1 2027 revenue and customer numbers. The ₦3,771 Nigeria ARPU figure remains unverified by the sources reviewed.

Airtel Nigeria reported average revenue of ₦3,771 per user for the six months ended September 2026, up 28.7% from a year earlier. The company’s Nigerian revenue rose 45% to ₦1.37 trillion, according to figures cited from Airtel Africa’s half-year filing. The results cover April through September and were reported on October 30. They highlight growing data demand and expanding customer numbers, while the average revenue figure offers a per-user view of the business.

Airtel Nigeria revenue and average spending

Average revenue per user, or ARPU, measures the average income generated from each customer over a period. Airtel Nigeria’s reported ARPU climbed from ₦2,969 in the same six-month period of 2025 to ₦3,771 in 2026. The rise was 28.7% year on year, according to the company figures cited in the report.
Airtel Nigeria’s total revenue reached ₦1.37 trillion, compared with ₦941.2 billion a year earlier. The company’s growth rate was 45%, based on the filing figures. Separately, Airtel Africa reported group revenue of $3.823 billion for the same half-year, up 28.2% in reported currency, according to its results coverage.

Data revenue leads Airtel Nigeria growth

Data generated ₦732.6 billion in Nigeria, a 52.7% increase from ₦480.7 billion in the prior-year period. The filing figures also showed voice revenue at ₦498.24 billion, up 37.8%. Both major service categories grew, but data recorded the faster increase.
The report linked data growth to increased smartphone use and consumption, but did not detail how much each factor contributed. It is therefore safer to describe demand as context rather than assign a precise cause to the results. Data revenue exceeded the reported voice figure during the period.
The company’s underlying earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation, known as EBITDA, increased 50.2% to ₦793.15 billion. Its EBITDA margin reached 58.1%, meaning underlying EBITDA represented that share of revenue. The metric helps show operating profitability before financing, tax and certain non-cash costs, but it is not the same as net profit.

Airtel subscribers and internet users expand

Airtel Nigeria’s customer base reached 61.7 million, up 15.1% from 53.6 million a year earlier. The report also put internet subscribers at 32.9 million, compared with 29.5 million in the previous period. These figures point to a larger customer base alongside growth in the number of people using internet services.
Airtel Africa’s group-wide customer base reached 193.9 million, a rise of 11.6%, while its data customer base grew 15% to 89.9 million. These group numbers cover markets beyond Nigeria and should not be read as Nigeria-only totals. Independent coverage of the half-year results also reported group revenue growth and increased data usage, corroborating the broader backdrop without independently confirming every Nigerian segment figure.

Airtel Money remains a smaller Nigerian operation

The report said Airtel Money Nigeria revenue rose 176.4% to $10 million, from $4 million in the comparable period. It attributed the increase to the business’s public offering and continuing expansion, though the figures alone do not establish the relative impact of each factor. Airtel Money had 4.2 million customers in Nigeria, substantially below the group’s customer counts in East Africa and Francophone Africa.
At group level, Airtel Money reported $830 million in half-year revenue, up 25.1% in constant currency, according to Reuters. Reuters also reported 56.7 million service customers across the business. Those totals apply to the wider mobile money operation, not Nigeria alone, and should be kept distinct from Airtel Nigeria’s telecom subscriber base.
Airtel Africa chief executive Sunil Taldar described the group’s performance as strong and said customer growth “remained strong and stable at 11.6%.” The quote appeared in the results report cited by TechNext24. The company also reported that group profit after tax rose 20.5% to $452 million for the half-year.
Ultimately, Airtel Nigeria’s reported figures show higher revenue per user, growth in data and voice income, and a larger customer base. The figures come from the company’s half-year disclosure as reported by TechNext24, while separate coverage supports the group-level results and mobile-money context. Airtel Africa said it plans to accelerate investment, but the material reviewed does not give a Nigeria-specific timetable or target. The next results will show whether this growth continues.
